Here's a real easy fashion upcycle with little to no sewing. Let's turn this old turtle neck shirt (with an ugly stain- but you can't see it in the pic) into a lovely shrug. |
Start by cutting off the bottom of the shirt. I just eyeballed it but you could determine how long you want it and measure and all that.. It looks like I cut about 5 or 6 inches down from the armpit. |
Grab your handy seam ripper and take out all the stitches holding the collar to the shirt. I love taking out stitches as long as they aren't ones that I put in! |
Tada! I'm thinking I might add ruffles to the rounded edges. What do you think? |
check out my blog. I nominated you! <3

Thanks Jessica! That was very sweet of you :)
DeleteWhat a great idea - I can't tell you how many turtlenecks I have consignaed to the rag bag because of a stain.....now I will turn them into shrugs! Which, I must admit, I thought were silly when they first came into style, but then I bought one out of desperation because I needed something to go with a sleeveless scoop neck dress and couldn't find a cardigan that I liked. I am now a convert to the power of the shrug. Ha. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteLynne, I had the same thought but they are so useful! and kind of vintage-y style too! I've seen this done wiht t-shirts but I did it this way because the sleeves keep my arms warm :)
